Indianapolis JCRC Statement on IMPD Officer-Involved Shooting

Friday, May 8, 2020

The Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council shares in the sadness and pain expressed by many in our community regarding the  May 6, 2020  officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of Dreasjon “Sean” Reed.

Our Jewish sages teach that the loss of one life is as if a whole world is destroyed; for this young man’s family, this is certainly true.

We express our hope and desire that the Indianapolis Marion County Police Department and the Marion County Prosecutor’s office will pursue a complete and independent investigation as proposed by Mayor Hogsett.

While we await the outcome of a fair and transparent investigation, the Jewish community reaffirms our unshakeable commitment to working with all communities to eradicate injustice in our society.
