JCRC’s Response to COVID-19

The Indy JCRC is committed to serving the community during this time, which includes doing our part to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Until April 10, the physical office of the JCRC will be closed, staff will be fully accessible while working remotely, meetings will take place via video-conference, and events will be postponed.

As an organization tasked with bringing people together across communities, this is a difficult moment. We are grateful that technology will enable us to continue doing much of the daily work of making connections and building relationships, but we recognize how challenging a time this will be for many families and organizations, both within the Jewish community and among our neighbors and friends.  JCRC will maintain open lines of communication in all directions so that we can explore and leverage appropriate and safe ways to continue doing the important work of building bridges and supporting neighbors most in need.

Effective Friday, March 13, 2020:

  • The physical office of the JCRC will be closed and staff will be working remotely.
  • JCRC staff will be fully accessible via email/phone 9 am-5 pm M-F (317-926-2935 – this number allows you to reach an extension for each of us).
  • JCRC events on the calendar in the coming 3+ weeks will be postponed.

Regarding the State of Indiana’s 22nd Annual Holocaust Remembrance Program on April 20, 2020:

  • JCRC is moving forward with planning, working in cooperation and communicating often with the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, with whom we partner to create this annual event.
  • We will stay in close communication with all those connected to this event, including elected officials, speakers, clergy, award winners, candle lighters, musicians, and names readers.
  • The best way to ensure that you have the most up-to-date information about this program is to register here so we have your email address: https://jewishcommunityrelationscouncil.wildapricot.org/event-3789810

What We Are Doing

Actions taken on the Jewish Community Campus
Housekeeping staff continues to work diligently in maintaining a clean environment in all areas throughout our campus with increased focus on frequently touched surfaces including door handles and countertops. Foreseeing a potential inventory shortage, we have placed additional orders for cleaning supplies. In addition:

  • We have reviewed our daily cleaning and sanitation protocols for areas throughout the campus.
  • We posted proper handwashing information in restrooms, locker rooms, and breakrooms.
  • We are providing Lysol wipes/sprays to our professionals for cleaning personal work areas. Cleaning wipes are also available near copiers and other communally shared equipment.
  • We will shortly be placing notices of precautionary actions that can be taken on our website and at all major entrances throughout the campus.

What You Should Do

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and dry them thoroughly, especially after using the restroom and before eating.
  • Cover your nose and mouth by sneezing or coughing into the bend of your elbow or with a tissue.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Avoid common greetings such as handshakes, hugs and greetings with a kiss.
  • Make sure not to victim-blame anyone for catching the virus, being in contact with someone who has the virus, or may feel they need to self-quarantine.

Choices You Can Make to Stay Emotionally Healthy

  • Pay Attention to your body and your emotions. It’s natural to experience stress and anxiety in the face of a threat we cannot control.
  • Listen to your emotions, noticing any anxiety, sadness, anger, or detachment.
  • Listen to your body, noticing any change in appetite, new aches and pains, or feelings particularly hot or cool.
  • When you notice troubling symptoms, pause to care for your body and mind. If you become unable to manage or function well, seek the assistance of a professional.
